Wardell, who is also vice president of the Association of Directors of Children’s Services for 2024/25, has been awarded an OBE (member of the order of the British Empire) for services to children's social care.
She has held the role of executive director of children, families and lifelong learning at Surrey County Council since December 2020 and previously worked in the same position at Merton Council.
Wardell has also worked as director of children’s and adult services at Wokingham Council and in managerial positions at Ofsted.
Dr Mary Jane Beek, principal social worker at Norfolk County Council and senior research fellow at the University of East Anglia has also been handed an OBE for services to children and families while Solihull’s director of children’s services Beate Wagner has been awarded the same accolade for services to education.
