Q. Our youth centre usually runs a five-day-a-week summer programme for our young people, but have no funding for it this year. Some staff are thinking of volunteering their time to do it. Is this legal?
Tracie Trimmer-Platman: If you have no funding, you are limited to what you can do. If there are people keen to volunteer, you should discuss this with your employers and see whether they would be prepared to open up your facilities and whether you'd still be insured and covered for liabilities. You could consider running something once or twice a week and asking parents to help.
