Our panel offers advice on planning a nursery trip; safely examining online grooming; boosting workers' skills and police complaints.

Q: We want to arrange the annual nursery outing. How do I keep everyone safe?

June O'Sullivan: Outings are great for children and families both as social and educational experiences. Start by informing parents you are planning an outing, explain the benefits to children and canvass their views on a suitable place to visit.

Meanwhile ensure staff are up to date on your setting's outings policy. Once the date and destination are agreed, write a letter to parents with all the information and a registration form to get permission to take the child on the trip and collect key details about children.

Plan your ratios. If parents are helping out then make sure they know which child or children they are responsible for. Make risk assessment easier by checking out the venue.
