Ask the expert - What's your problem?

How to help when a local family is being terrorised; feeling like an outsider on a youth work course; and coping with a betrayal of trust. Tracie Trimmer-Platman has the answers.

Q: The case of Fiona Pilkington, who killed herself and her daughter after they were hounded by local teenagers, was very tragic. A family in my neighbourhood is suffering the same kind of torment from a gang of boys who attend our club. Is there anything I can do about it?

It's hard to advise on this. But there are a few things you could try.

Be a good neighbour and engage with the family. See if there is anything you can do to help with the authorities. Let them know the boys come to your club and that you strongly disapprove of their behaviour - it will help the family to know you care. Find out if there is anything they could tell you that might help you get inside the minds of the boys.
