Q: A new group of young Travellers have started to attend the youth club where I work. Some of the young people who attend regularly have stopped coming because they say the Travellers are rude and I am worried we will lose them. The Travellers don't really seem to want to make new friends or engage in the usual way.
A: Like many cultural groups, Travellers have a unique history and way of life. It is sometimes hard for them to integrate readily with others because they are often the victims of bad press, negative perceptions and stereotypes. The transient nature of their lives also makes relationships with outsiders difficult.
