Raising the issue of learning needs requires the skills of a diplomatic negotiator. In many cultures, issues regarding special needs remain very sensitive. For every parent, the fear their child might need help comes with a range of emotions including guilt, anger, denial and fear.
So preparation is key. First, read the nursery approach to inclusivity. This can be a useful way to frame a conversation. Ensure you do lots of observations on the child at different times and in different ways. Talk to your manager and Senco [special educational needs co-ordinator].
