Ask the Expert: DIsability inclusion

We run a weekly nursery drop-in session for parents whose children have disabilities. Some agencies are suggesting we stop the group because we should be integrated. We disagree, but are we right?

The debate about inclusion versus segregation is highly emotive and tends to focus on whether mainstream schools should or should not ensure a full education for all children despite any disabilities they may have.

However, let us not confuse the big inclusion debate with the request from a small group of parents to spend one day a week together. Families whose children are disabled need to be able to meet other parents in a similar situation.
