Plans to refurbish the Pegasus Theatre, which is the home of Oxford Youth Theatre, have been in the pipeline for more than 10 years but it is only now that the theatre has managed to gain sufficient funding.
The grant means Pegasus now has 70 per cent of the total cash needed thanks to local authority funding and money raised through the theatre itself.
Planning permission has been granted for a new building with construction beginning in 2008. The revamp will include a workshop and technical building space, dressing rooms, a foyer, a new wing, cafe bar and dance rehearsal studio, as well as retractable seating in the theatre.
