Diplomas are meeting the needs of students. However, I completely reject the "less able" notion. Each of us has different strengths and there are many paths to success. Our education system must encourage and support all young people in finding their particular talent. From Edge's knowledge of what is happening on the ground, there's no question that diplomas are providing a very important pathway for young people and employers. If "less able" means young people who have not been successful in an academic environment, then the Level 1 Diploma is an entirely appropriate route (along with other options) from entry level.
