"There is still a lot of confusion about the new diplomas and whether they are as valuable as A-levels," says one education professional.
"Diplomas were neither properly funded nor adequately piloted and launched. Yet another missed opportunity," says another.
These two responses are not atypical. In a survey by CYP Now, 40 per cent of professionals rated advice and guidance on diplomas in schools and colleges as poor. And more than half of professionals said that schools, colleges and local authorities are unprepared for the joint working that delivering the government's 14 to 19 reforms demands.
Professionals voiced concerns about issues ranging from whether universities would actually accept diplomas, to fears that further education settings are unsuitable for pupils as young as 14.
