Antisocial Behaviour: Councils praised in Beacon awards

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council, Bristol City Council, and Portsmouth City Council were chosen from a short list of six (YPN, 28 February-6 March, p7).

The authorities were picked because they were able to demonstrate a reduction in perception of antisocial behaviour, and satisfaction with the outcome of complaints.

Bolton Council said its award recognised the success of its tiered approach to dealing with antisocial behaviour, using acceptable behaviour contracts before antisocial behaviour orders, and prevention work.

In the latest round of the scheme, 41 awards were given to 55 authorities, which will share a 3m fund to promote their work.
