Antisocial Behaviour: Councils to share anti-disorder ideas

1 min read

Beacon councils are recognised for showing best practice in one or more areas, which are set out in the themes for each round of the scheme. One of the themes for round eight, which was announced last week, is tackling antisocial behaviour.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM), which oversees the Beacon programme, said it would not release more details until the formal launch of the application process in the spring.

Beacon councils get a share of a 3m fund to work with other local authorities.

Round seven, which included a positive youth engagement theme, ended earlier this month. The ODPM could not say how many councils had applied for Beacon status under the theme, but it is understood there was significant interest. Short-listed councils will be announced in early November and awards made in March 2006.
