I'm a young carer and have been attending Action for Children's Young Carers' Project for the past four years.

I care for my mum who has bipolar disorder, which has impacted on my ability to participate in normal childhood experiences. The project has opened doors for me and provided opportunities to participate in a range of activities that have developed my confidence and self-esteem.

The biggest event that I have attended so far was the Growing Strong Conference in London, which I co-chaired with Clare Tickell, chief executive of Action for Children. The purpose of the conference was to explore ways of developing children and young people's emotional wellbeing. The keynote address was delivered by Children's Secretary Ed Balls, who gave an overview on the government's perspective.
