3 mins read
Last week the Government stumped up new money to help get children's trusts working more closely with the voluntary sector after some trusts were accused of failing to engage. David Singleton finds out why this money is needed and how it will be spent.

Some children's trusts stand accused of failing to engage with thevoluntary sector but that could all be about to change.

The Government has committed 3m to the Third Sector CapacityBuilding Programme, an initiative that aims to break down the barriersbetween children's trusts and community groups (Children Now, 28 June-4July). The money will be spent on helping local authorities to engagewith the children's voluntary sector and on helping the voluntary sectorto win contracts for children's services.

Paul Ennals, chief executive of the National Children's Bureau, willchair a consortium of voluntary groups - including NCH, the NationalCouncil for Voluntary Organisations, Parenting UK and the Family WelfareAssociation - which will oversee the 18-month programme.
