When Gordon Brown takes over from Tony Blair as Prime Minister today (27 June), a tension that has been at the heart of the Labour Government will finally be resolved. But will this final act in the Tony versus Gordon saga result in improvements to youth policy?
The short answer seems to be 'yes'. It could be argued that government policy has been moving more towards youth issues anyway, but the general feeling seems to be that Prime Minister Brown is likely to be good for the sector.
Susie Roberts, chief executive of the Association of Principal Youth and Community Officers, says: "We are obviously all waiting for the Comprehensive Spending Review, but all the signals point to good news. I feel quite positive about that."
