After training with Coldingley Crime Diversion Scheme for current and former prisoners who want to divert potential offenders away from crime, Sutherland now works across several youth offending teams (YOTs) as a consultant.

Prevention

He says giving ex-offenders the chance to prevent young people from offending gives them a sense of meaning when they leave prison.

"You get people finishing their sentences and they have no meaningful employment to go to," he says. "This gives them the opportunity to apply skills they have learned, with no stigma."

Sutherland is by no means alone in using his time in prison to help turn young people away from crime.
