2 mins read Youth Justice Crime prevention
The Foundation 4 Life is using the real-life experiences of former offenders to engage at-risk young people and challenge their ideas and behaviour.

Project Foundation 4 Life

Funding: Home Office, London Development Agency, local authorities and police. Includes a two-year £200,000 grant from the Metropolitan Police and a one-year £30,000 grant from the London Probation Trust

Purpose To use the real-life experiences of ex-offenders to deter young people from a life of crime

Background

US programmes have had success in using former gang members to reach out to teenagers at risk of being sucked into violence. This is the approach taken by Foundation 4 Life, which uses ex-offenders to encourage young people to steer clear of crime.

Action

The organisation runs a range of projects across London and the South East. It works with councils and youth offending, probation and police services in settings including schools, youth clubs and pupil referral units.
