When the Department for Education and Skills commissioned The National Youth Agency (NYA) to come up with a youth service quality mark in 2003, the award was aimed at local authority-run services. Since then the policy framework around services for young people has changed, and the standard expected to be launched next month will be far broader than the original remit (YPN, 25-31 January, p4).
Although it will be tailored to youth services, Sue Quinn, development officer for quality mark at The NYA, says it could equally easily be used by voluntary sector organisations, children's trusts or youth offending teams. It is expected to cost 125 for local authority youth services and national organisations, and 75 for smaller voluntary groups.
