The National Youth Agency: Marking youth service quality

2 mins read

In 2003, The National Youth Agency was commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills to develop a Quality Mark for Youth Services, with the Transforming Youth Work Quality Action Group overseeing development.

The pilot phase started in September 2004 with nine pilots, one based in each of the regions. These were chosen from 24 volunteers, and selected to represent service diversity across the country. The nine pilots were Hounslow, Milton Keynes, Southend-on-Sea, Coventry, Northamptonshire, Somerset, Middlesbrough, East Riding and Greater Merseyside.

A draft Quality Mark document has been produced and is currently being tested. The final draft is due in June. The challenge has been to ensure that the indicators in the Quality Mark request the information and evidence needed for an organisation to be fit for purpose.
