In keeping with its taste for grand visions, the Government's strategy for improving the lives of disabled people is full to bursting with recommendations.
The 200-plus pages of Improving the Life Chances of Disabled People touch on almost every aspect of disability and promise much for disabled young people, including a greater focus on independent living and services to help with the transition from adolescence to adulthood (YPN, 26 January-1 February, p5).
All about the money
The plan to set up an Office for Disability Issues to co-ordinate the delivery of the strategy has been widely welcomed, but short-term funding is not forthcoming and government departments will need to wait until the next Spending Review in order to bid for additional funds.
