ALCOHOL: Portman Group revamps ID card

1 min read

An independent complaints panel run by the Portman Group, a drinks industry body that promotes sensible drinking, found that the drink breaches a code of practice on the naming, packaging and promotion of alcoholic drinks that is supported by more than 120 companies.

The manufacturer of fcuk Spirit, Bristol drinks company Matthew Clark, said it disagreed with the decision but agreed to withdraw the product from sale.

Complaints were also upheld on another product, called Kiss Me. It was felt that the packaging of the product appealed to under-18s and did not communicate its alcoholic nature.

Jean Coussins, chief executive of The Portman Group, said: "If any other owners of brands that appeal to under-18s are thinking of licensing agreements with alcoholic drinks companies, they should forget it."
