Activity Ideas: Places to go - Hadrian's Wall

1 min read
Hadrian's Wall was built by the Romans and spans 73 miles between Newcastle upon Tyne on the east coast to Carlisle on the west.

Described by English Heritage as "the most important monument built by the Romans in Britain", it is among the most-popular attractions in northern England.

The walk can usually be completed in between three to nine days depending on your group's level of fitness. There's also a 170-mile Hadrian's Cycleway that covers the route, which can usually be ridden in three to five days. Other options include hiring a pony or horse and trekking across the route. Local stables are situated close to Vindolanda.

Film fans can visit the tree used by Kevin Costner in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, which is located at Sycamore Gap, near Milecastle.
