Charity ball raises £1m; youth services in Shropshire set to be outsourced; and village youth club in Leicestershire closes, all in the news this week.

A charity ball has raised £1m to help support youth clubs in Greater Manchester. The Manchester Evening News reports that a ball put on by Onside Youth Zones, a charity that offers activities for young people, was held in the grounds of the chairman of OnSide, Bill Holroyd.

All youth services in Shropshire are to be run by third parties outside the local authority, it has been announced. The Shropshire Star reports that, from next month, the authority will no longer be delivering youth services, but instead commissioning organisations and individuals to run them.

A village youth club in Leicestershire has closed due to funding cuts and falling numbers, 14 years after it was launched. The Leicester Mercury reports that Glen Parva parish council has said it will “continue to review the provision of facilities for young people and explore other opportunities of engaging with them in the future”.

The site of a former youth centre in Henley that closed earlier this year will be sold for £3m to a care home company, it has emerged. The Henley Standard reports that Thamesfield Youth Association will receive more than half of the proceeds.

A youth group in Staffordshire has been awarded £887 by the county's police and crime commissioner to keep young people “off the streets”. The Express and Star reports that the funding is intended to provide activities and games for young people.
