
More than half of youth centres in Conservative council areas have been closed down since Prime Minister David Cameron came to power, figures have revealed. The Mirror reports a survey of 105 local authorities found the Conservative-led councils have scrapped funding for 411 of their 811 youth centres since 2010.
Young people in Leicestershire have been called upon to join a group that examines the use of stop and search tactics. The Voice reports the external stop and search reference group, set up to guide Leicestershire Police, is keen to recruit new members and is hoping young people from black and minority ethnic communities will join.
A Wolverhampton youth centre due to open next year is to receive £75,000 over a three-year period from a city building supplier. The Express & Star reports Wolverhampton’s Carvers Building Supplies will donate £25,000 a year for three years to The Way Youth Zone.
A group of eight youth organisations that run services in Brighton and Hove have a “social value” return on investment of more than 500 per cent, researchers have found. A study carried out by NEF Consulting into the value of youth work by Brighton and Hove Youth Collective found every £1 invested in open access youth provision resulted in £5.56 of social value.
