New youth zone nears completion; call for youth organisations to assess their safeguarding procedures; and diversion scheme saves £190,000, all in the news this week.

Construction of a new youth zone in Wirral is nearing completion with less than 60 days to go until opening. Onside Youth Zones said contractors on the £6m facility are adding the finishing touches, including a rooftop football pitch, a skate park and external areas.


Youth organisations are being asked to mark National Safeguarding Month in March by working to improve their safeguarding procedures. Previously run by NCVYS, UK Youth is this year taking the lead on the Stop, Look and Listen campaign to inspire and motivate youth organisations to consider their safeguarding procedures.


A scheme designed to stop young people taking up a life of crime has saved Lancashire Police almost £190,000 in the last 12 months. The Lancashire Evening Post reports that the custody triage service, developed by Child Action Northwest diverts youngsters who've committed low-level crimes away from the criminal justice system by offering them the chance to take part in community schemes.
