Youth work roundup: Social action, youth employment and youth club closure

Government pilots National Citizen Service Wales; MPs back London Youth's employability programme; and young people accuse council of lying about youth club closure plans, all in the news this week.

The government’s flagship youth scheme will launch in Wales for the first time today. National Citizen Service Wales is being funded by £300,000 from the UK government and aims to engage 200 16- to 17-year-olds between now and October.

A youth-led approach to helping young people find work was backed by MPs during a reception at the House of Commons. London Youth, together with Hackney MP Meg Hillier, hosted the event to celebrate its Talent Match London programme and to share the benefits of the approach with policymakers.

Members of a youth club in Bradford on Avon have accused Wiltshire Council of lying about plans to close the centre, saying it will be closed earlier than expected. The Wiltshire Times reports that young people feel misled after the council issued a notice stating that it will cease running Bradford on Avon Youth on 1 August.
