Research conducted for the Philip Lawrence Awards Network Who am I? campaign revealed that 42 per cent of young people wanted to work more closely with the police.
Commissioned by charity Catch22, the online poll of young people aged 16 to 25 also found that more than a third of respondents wanted more local or community activities.
Frances Lawrence, founder of the Philip Lawrence Awards, said: "I am inspired by the passion that many young people have for making a real difference in their communities and truly grateful for their commitment. As a society, we are sometimes in danger of losing sight of the good in young people and their capacity for doing great things. The awards are a distinctive and meaningful way to celebrate their unique contribution."
