Inspiring young people awarded

Youth Work
Young people who took part in the National Citizen Service scheme have received awards for their achievements.

At a ceremony attended by Princess Anne and Radio 1 DJ Reggie Yates, people were given awards for categories ranging from "inspiring individuals" to "best community supporter".

A group of young people from Runcorn in Cheshire were among the winners, having turned an abandoned youth centre into a social enterprise. The Woodlands Play Centre was one of the 18 youth clubs and six play centres that had been closed down in the area between 1990 and 2000.

After repairing and reopening the building, a local housing association is consulting the group, which is part of Catch22’s NCS partnership, about a social enterprise that will employ them to act as young managers.
