11 Million hopes that 30,000 children and young people will take part in decision-making in the public and private sector today as part of its Takeover Day event.

Organisations and people taking part in the event in England, which encourages organisations to open their doors so children and young people can join in decisions which affect their daily lives, include Children's Secretary Ed Balls, shadow children's minister Tim Loughton, Tesco, the Red Cross, schools and local authorities.

In Leicester children and young people will "take over" the roles of council chief executive and lead member for children and schools, as well as running a Nando's resraurant for the day.

At 11 Million pupils from Surrey Square Junior School in Southwark will work on designs to create a new logo for next year's Takeover Day, while Uma Akther, Young Mayor of Tower Hamlets, will join Sue Berelowitz, deputy Children's Commissioner, for the day.
