Under-18s to be banned from using sunbeds

1 min read Health
Under-18s will be banned from using sunbeds and unmanned tanning salons in England and Wales after a Private Members' Bill was passed by Parliament.

The legislation was passed this week after being introduced as a Private Members' Bill by Julie Morgan MP for Cardiff North.

The move will bring England and Wales in line with Scotland, which has already accepted a ban.

Aisling Burnand, executive director of policy at Cancer Research UK, said: "This is a monumental achievement and legislation will go a long way to curb the alarming numbers of teenagers who use sunbeds.

"Younger people are particularly at risk and sunbed users under the age of 35 have a 75 per cent higher risk of developing malignant melanoma, the deadliest type of skin cancer."
