Struggling adventure playground wins award

An east London adventure playground that is struggling to remain open through a lack of funding has won playground of the year in a competition organised by London Play.

Somerford Grove Adventure Playground, which is the only adventure playground in the borough of Haringey, won the award after a panel of children and adult play experts tried out the facilities.

It is currently funded by cash from trusts and charities and provides free supervised play for children aged five to 15.

Nick Jackson, director of Haringey Play Association, said that the award endorsed the ethos of the playground, which is to put children and young people at the centre of all activities.

He said: "This award gives us renewed vigour and affirms our commitment to providing the best play environment possible for the children and young people we work with.'
