Social Care: Workforce - Fostering standards to be launched

1 min read
Fostering standards that will help in the training of carers are to be launched as part of Foster Care Fortnight 2007 (14-17 May).

Devised by the Children's Workforce Development Council, the standardsaim to equip foster carers with skills and knowledge to help them lookafter children in their care. The standards, which will indicate bestpractice rather than be compulsory, will help support carers throughtheir first two years of fostering. The council hopes the standards willlead to consistent training across England as well as improvements inthe status of carers as trained professionals.

Jane Haywood, chief executive of the council, said: "These standardswill help employers lay firm foundations for skills and knowledge duringthe first two years of fostering. This in turn will help ensure childrenand young people receive the best possible care."
