Senior nursery nurse role to be piloted in Edinburgh

1 min read Early Years
Nursery nurses in Edinburgh will be given greater responsibility and the power to offer more support to teachers under a pilot scheme set to be launched in August by Edinburgh City Council.

The council has decided to trial the role of "senior nursery nurse" which will mean nurseries with more than 40 pupils in a session would be allocated a senior nursery nurse to support the teacher, instead of additional fully-qualified teaching support.

According to a report commissioned by the council, feedback from the nursery sector suggested that the majority of providers would prefer additional support from a senior nursery nurse. The council will be running a series of pilot schemes at Edinburgh-based nurseries this summer - four nurseries have already confirmed they will be taking part.
