What does it involve? All leftover snacks are recycled through the nursery garden's compost area, which is also home to a greenhouse for growing vegetables, bird and bat boxes, and a pond and water butts for local frogs and insects. The children regularly look-after and monitor the pond life using binoculars, nets and magnifying glasses.
What has it achieved? The nursery has become the first early years setting to achieve a fourth, and now permanent, Green Flag rating by the national Eco School Programme. The Green Flag is the scheme's top award and is achieved by involving parents in the school or nursery's environmental work and producing a detailed action plan, focusing on steps to improve the surrounding environment.
