Opinion: My Life - Jack Welch, 22, Weymouth

For more than five years, volunteering has been a crucial part of
my life, whether representing the voices of young people in political
debates or through youth advisory positions in a number of
charities.

Not only has my volunteering enabled me to help other young people, but it has also provided me with opportunities to gain valuable "job-ready" skills.

It was in my final year at university that I first volunteered with YouthNet, which is an online charity for young people. I became involved in the charity's programme of research and co-creation, looking into how young people can use technology to aid their search for jobs.

As part of the project, I also received training from a respected recruitment agency in applying for jobs and visited a Hilton Hotel to get a new perspective on why the hospitality industry may not be something to be sniffed at after all.
