Young carers are having to wait too long to access support, according to an Ofsted report.

The inspectorate visited eight councils and found that half of the projects set up to support young carers in the areas visited had waiting lists, with 117 young carers waiting between six and eight months to access the service in the worst case.

Ofsted recommends that the Department for Children, Schools and Families should work with councils to obtain realistic estimates of the numbers of young carers nationally and within each council.
