Local authorities: Joint working 'the next big challenge'

The "next big challenge" facing local authorities is to improve joint working between children's and adult services, according to children's minister Beverley Hughes.

It is important to make sure practitioners meet the needs of families,as well as those of groups like young carers and disabled parents, whoneed help from both services, she told a Local Government Associationconference last week.

Hughes said joint work between adult and children's services has alwaysbeen a challenge, and it would be wrong to "suggest there was once agolden era".
