Leicester playgrounds' future uncertain amid £1mn funding cuts

Nine adventure playgrounds in the city have been told by Leicester City Council the funding is to end in 2025.

Instead, the council wants them “to find alternative sources of funding”, such as accessing charitable grants.

They have been given a deadline of the end of September to present plans to the council on how they can become self-funding.

So far, four play associations have sent the council “robust sustainability plans” said a council spokesperson, who added the local authority is “hopeful of receiving more by the deadline”.

Among those impacted is Highfields Adventure Playground Association, which runs the Highfields Playground, and fears it will need to make stuff redundant.
