NCB Now: Play England highlights ideal spaces

On 17 September, Play England showcased Leicester's adventure playgrounds to visiting local authorities from across the country so that they might glean ideas for building noteworthy play spaces of their own.

Play England promotes well-maintained adventure playgrounds that are inclusive, attractive and welcoming, with accessible routes to and from schools. Richard Gott, regional development manager for Play England in the East Midlands, said: "We chose to highlight Leicester because there are so many exemplary playgrounds in the city. In fact, it was hard for us to narrow it down to just four."

Through The Children's Plan, 20 local authorities in England have been granted £2m to spend on building playgrounds. All the delegates scheduled to tour Leicester's playgrounds hail from local authorities that have been granted this cash.

During the Leicester visit, representatives from local authorities viewed several examples of ideal adventure playgrounds, including spaces in Highfields, Goldhill, New Parks and Woodgate. They also had an opportunity to talk with the play workers.
