Inspectors 'encouraged' by improvements at a youth offending team in Merseyside

Significant improvements have been made at a youth offending team in Merseyside, inspectors have found.

The reinspection found that safeguarding aspects of work were done well enough 75 per cent of the time.

On public protection aspects, work to keep to a minimum each individual’s risk of harm to others was done well enough 70 per cent of the time, and the work to make each individual less likely to reoffend was done well enough 81 per cent of the time.

Alan MacDonald, assistant chief inspector of probation, said: "We found that the youth offending team had made significant efforts to implement the improvement plan submitted to us in July 2009, and as a result, the overall performance was much stronger.
