The strategy for England, announced last week, will be the first attemptby Government to create a coherent structure for palliativeservices.
The announcement follows the publication of the first independent reviewof children's palliative care ordered by the Government. Palliative CareServices for Children and Young People in England reveals variations inlevels of services and spending, patchy planning and data, and littlefunding from children's trusts.
Speaking at the launch of the review, health minister Ivan Lewis pledgedto develop a strategy by the end of the year. But despite promising"additional resources", he shied away from a firm commitment, describingthe Comprehensive Spending Review as a "barrier to overcome".
