Foyer launches two-year health project

1 min read Health Youth Work
A supported housing project in Nottingham has launched a two-year project to improve the health of its young residents.

Grantham Foyer gained funding from the Big Lottery Fund's Well-being Fund in partnership with the Foyer Federation to develop its health and wellbeing programme. The project launched on Friday (9 January) with a smoothie-making competition, graffiti workshop and Wii tournament.

Grantham Foyer, which provides housing for vulnerable young people who may otherwise become homeless, is run by Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA). NCHA has named January official Youth Takeover Month and is giving young people from all its housing schemes the opportunity to try out jobs at the association.

Gemma Iles, young persons service manager at NCHA, said: "By inviting the young homeless people who we support to shadow the NCHA jobs, we'll put them in control and hear their fresh ideas about how to run the association. We also hope that the young people will gain skills and inspiration to help them to think about their futures."
