Children's minister Beverley Hughes last week revealed plans tofundamentally change her department's approach to dealing with theissue. She said there would be a greater emphasis on ensuring thatschools are taking bullying seriously.
"We want to change our focus somewhat in terms of not only campaigninggenerally about the importance of bullying, but really making sure everyschool has embedded a sound policy that it is implementing robustlyaround bullying," she said.
Giving evidence to MPs on the Commons' Education and Skills SelectCommittee, Hughes revealed that this could mean "requiring nationalstrategy teams to identify schools that are weak in their approach tobullying and to support them to get much stronger and more robust".
