Early years specialists to improve local authority services

1 min read Early Years
Local authorities will have access to tailored support from early years sector specialists from next month onwards.

In total, 21 sector specialists have been recruited by the Centre for Excellence in Outcomes (C4EO), a government-funded organisation committed to improving children's services across various themes.

Carmel Burton, Sure Start Children's Centre partnership manager for Swindon Borough Council, and one of the recruited specialists, said: "What we are looking to achieve is to respond to requests for support from within the sector rather than outside, so the person offering support has local authority experience and is in tune with their concerns and needs."

From February, directors of children's services can request the free and voluntary support, which will be designed to suit the specific needs of each Children's Trust.

The specialists come from a variety of backgrounds including teaching, social work, children's centre management, educational psychology and commissioning. Local authorities employed the majority of applicants while a small group was also recruited from voluntary agencies.

They will all be introducing themselves at the forthcoming series of nine regional Early Years Knowledge Workshops that the Centre is holding over the next four weeks.
