Fears over faith abuse amid pandemic

Children’s charity Barnardo’s has called on communities to report signs of child abuse linked to faith and beliefs, including witchcraft, during lockdown.

Leethen Bartholomew, the head of the National FGM Centre, which is run by Barnardo’s and the Local Government Association, says families who believe in spirit possession and witchcraft often think this is the reason for a death within the family, a period of illness, financial hardship or unemployment.
