Call for online review to cover ContactPoint

1 min read Careers
A review of child safety online that was ordered by the Prime Minister should look at the threats posed by the government's own initiatives, according to campaigners.

Psychologist Tanya Byron has been asked by the government to assess the threat video games and online content pose to children and young people.

But a group of human rights campaigners and independent school representatives has called for the review to also consider the threats posed by the government's ContactPoint database.

ContactPoint will hold details of every child and young person in England, and will be accessed via the internet by more than 300,000 users.

In a letter to The Guardian newspaper the group said Byron's review should urge the government to suspend all plans for the database while a separate security review is carried out.
