Minister claims delays will make ContactPoint more effective

Careers
Delays to the implementation of the information sharing database for children and young people will mean it runs more effectively, according to ministers.

In response to a Parliamentary written question Lord Adonis, the junior schools minister, said delaying ContactPoint will mean its benefits are realised sooner.

The database has been delayed following security concerns after HM Revenue and Customs lost the personal details of child benefit claimants.

ContactPoint is now expected to be rolled out across England between January and May 2009.

Adonis said: “The additional time available presents a number of opportunities to do more work.

“The fundamental design of ContactPoint will not change. The alterations will make sure that the system works even more effectively for users.”
