Apyco members vote to become Chyps

Youth work managers have voted to change the name of their professional body to reflect developments in the profession.

Members of the Association of Principal Youth and Community Officers (Apyco) have voted to change the organisation's name to the Confederation of Heads of Young Peoples Services (Chyps).

All members were given a chance to vote for one of the three shortlisted names at yesterday's executive committee meeting.

David Whewell, chair of the newly named Chyps, said: "When we made our constitutional changes in October the name Apyco no longer reflected what we encompassed. This name is much better and encompasses all the statutory leaders and heads that we represent."

The other unsuccessful options were the Association of Integrated Support Services (AIYSS) and Association of Lead Officers for Youth Support Services (ALOYSS)
