Of the NAYCEO membership balloted, 94 per cent voted to join Aspect. NAYCEO, which represents young people's services managers, will become an autonomous professional section of Aspect, which has a larger membership of 4,000. Aspect also has a wider remit, including directors of children’s services, education welfare managers and children's trust heads.
John Chowcat, general secretary of Aspect, said that one factor in the move was the need to present a stronger voice for youth managers and young people's professionals surrounding government cuts and changes to youth services.
He said: "This is a busy time for youth services, there are a lot of changes and moves to integrated youth services and it was felt that we can be more effective together."
NAYCEO's members will also be able to call on Aspect’s trade union support, legal advice and regional representation. The organisation had previously been supported by the National Union of Teachers.
