In total, 153 responses were received, which revealed that although 90 per cent of young people felt safe walking around their local area during the day, half felt unsafe walking around at night.
Barbara Hearn, deputy chief executive at NCB, said: "Sixty-two per cent of young people are afraid of being a victim of crime, so find safety in numbers and go out in groups with their friends. This in turn may perpetuate the myth that all young people in groups are antisocial. However we have found that their parents actually prefer them to be among their friends for their own personal safety, rather than on their own at night."
